Doodle Adventure's future

Wow! I never imagined that Doodle Adventures could get such an attention, even from sites i used to visit as a player such as gamasutra and droidgamers. Even if small, it had a much larger impact in the world I could ever expect.

Anyway, even if it will probably burst like a soap bubble, I'll continue to work on it, so let me explain the flight plain:

The next small update (1.6.1)

Some people wrote to me and complained about the store being a little bit unclear, so Asduffo decided that, probably this weekend, will release an update that will improve the store's UI to make clearer the nature of the purchasable product, what gets unlocked in the level editor and what doesn't.

Will it come out on iOS?
A guy mailed me this simple question. The simple answer is: I'd wish too, since iOS is well known to developers for having a much bigger revenue than android. Unfortunately Asduffo  is not rich and Asduffo can't afford a MAC (even an used mac mini), an Apple license (99$ per year is such a big deal uh...) and an old iPhone/iPad for testing purposes. There are 2 big alternatives if you want to make Asduffo richer enough to afford so much stuff:

  1. A kickstarter campaign: if you think i should do a kickstarter campaign for the iOS porting mail me, let me know in the comments of this post,or comment somewhere such as my twitter/youtube account, ok?
  2. Download, install and open apps (and immediately disinstall if you want) by clicking in the ads in Doodle Adventures, or purchase something from its store
The point 2 is quite a retarded one since it means that you're actually playing Doodle Adventures, so i don't know why would you want it on iOS too. BUT STILL DO IT.

The 2.0 update

I'm already working to the 2.0 update. It will include many things, some of them are:

  • Game rewritten from scratch! Doodle Adventures have been a bit unlucky: made with unity3d, which is a great engine, it started as a small project when the engine was at his 4.1 version, but the big work was made with unity 4.2. When the 4.3 version was released, with all the 2D tools, the development was really advanced, so I couldn't just convert it at that point (and I'm saying this because I tried. Exactly 4 times (I still have the backup files)). And when the 4.6 version were shipped with all his cool UI tools, the game was almost done!
Also I have to say that this game grow up with my programming skills, and since the core of the game was made when I was barely 16, I have to say that even if it works, it could be much batter than that. Watching some code in the UIs, it reminds me an old satirical image of an old italian government:
    (Litherally: "who moves is schrewed")
With the ministers being the c# files. So i'm going to plain a proper game architecture and then start again from 0. This will also make the game much faster, uh.
  • More levels! I put to myself a target of 200 levels. This also means much more game mechanics and items!
  • A better UI! From the selection menu to the game, nothing will sucks
  • Better editor! Easier to use, with much more items and options!
  • Revisioned english. I promise.

And much more. The big problem is that

It will take a long while, and yet I don't know how much. In the mean time, if i feel to do it, i'll relase in my twitter account some new levels made with the editor, so be sure to follow me. Also use the hashtag #DoodleAdventures to share yours: i'm really looking forward to play them, really!
I'm sorry for this little inconvenience, but as i said before, I have to do all from myself, and I'm just an high school student. So, as my future superior says:

Regards, Asduffo.

Remastering Doodle Adventures in Unity 5

I have to say: even if the new release of Unity3d brings all the tools i always dreamt like the profiler and occlusion culling, it came also with a lot of troubles.

Animations first, all of them stopped working for some obscure reason. I ended up with a workaround by modifying some stuff.

Also the editor: some stuff of the interface stopped behaving like they had and they always done.

While the new physics is billions times faster it gave me some problems (especially with the spherics levels).

Chartboost had to be reintegrated

And teleports had to be rewritten because with the new physics, even if faster, modified the events and it somehow ended up in something like this:

But in general it worked quite well. If i can manage it, the new update will be released during the next week. After that I'll be out for the weekend due to a trip in Africa and after that i'll give you guys the long-term plans for Doodle Adventures.

PS: "Project 2" is in development

Announcing Doodle Adventures

Doodle Adventures is a puzzle game with platformer elements on it. Or maybe it's a platformer with puzzle elements on it. Neither I, Asduffo, the creator of this game, knows how to describe it. The only reason it's in the puzzle cathegory in Google Play it's because it performs better in revenue. But that's just what it is. A game.

Doodle Adventures, in all of his awfulnes

The rules are simple: in the game you don't control Dudol (the little stickman protagonist), but the level. You can drag blocks (be careful: you have a limit) to the scene, as well as other tools and even enemies itself. Press the play icon and Dudol will start walking until it doesn't reach the end or he dies. Keep in mind that he's a little silly, so he just knows when to jump, or to change direction. And that's all. Since it's quite simple as idea, I tried to make the advanced levels as hard as i could.

But since someone will surely be smarter and clever than me, I also included a level editor, so you can create your own levels and share them with qr codes to your friends, which can be scanned with your device's camera or opened directly by using the Android gallery. I'm looking forward to play them, so be sure to make them really mind blowing!

When I started the development of this game, about 1 and an half year ago, it was just my way to learn game programming with unity3d. It was just something I did in my freetime, between studies and swimming sessions. But then, when I realized it was becoming something bigger, and with the support of my dear friends, classmates and my parents, I decided to go on. So i made better (that since my drawing skills sucks it's still a big word) artworks and without realizing, I had a complete game. Even if it's incomplete (but don't worry: more stuff is coming not-very-soon), I thinks it has potential. Also it's pretty much the realization of a lot of encouragements I had from the persons around me, so many thanks if you play it even for a couple of minutes.

Regards, Asduffo
